WHO AM I? WHO ARE THEY?
After looking at various companies and their style of working I am trying to consider where I might fit in the world and where I want to fit. Speaking on my situation now, I find it really hard and almost rushed to consider who I want to be when I am still learning the basics which form my decision. I havn't had time to consider what I an even good at let alone what I enjoy. However it has drawn my attention to the analysis of my everyday life and what comes naturally to me as to what I am good at and enjoy.
This is what I found. Judging by my excentric habit of 'home making' at any oppertunity wherever it may be, it seems that applying what I can get my hands on to what am given goes quite well. I spend my life with my eyes as far open as possible, being a magpie and collecting things that 'I will definatley need one day'. Making something from nothing is something that comes natrually to me and is a massive enjoyment. I apply this to my work wether it is in the way of informing others to do the same or even down to the sheer method of working from found objects. I love drawing peoples attention to the most insignificant things, making them see it in an entirley new light of useage and beauty.
So weather or not it is as product or promotion, this can be applied through interior design, wardrobe choices and most of all Graphic Design. Now, place is where my investigation and exposure as to who I am gets interesting. Half of me has this massive longing to buy a secluded house in the country side and make it look stunning inside and out and have a little room at the top to produce some pretty images to sell on to humble projects. Then half of me wants to dominate something as much as I can. To walk into any VOGUE building with a mission to layout their pages like never before, and even add some entries myself would fill me with as much fulfillment as a large chocolate cake. A girl can dream. I would like to bring this ambition and vision or the way I live to any company willing to take it and embrace it. For example I love 'Howies' mixture of handrawn and photographic with subtle type imagery. Or 'Cath Kidstons' highlighting of the past and its beautiful lifestyle through everyday domestic products. American Apparel's clean cut marriage of fashion and graphic design is also something to deeply admire.
Am I a revolutionist or an evolutionist? Am I a manager or oppertunist or cautiious rather than a risk taker? As difficult as it may seem I would say I am a bit of all of those things. I believe in useful design but am willing to take a risk in how it is designed. I like to be my boss but take direction advice with massivley open arms considering I am not the tallest of them all. I will do my best to share my vision on how to live your life (or atleast how it should look) to whom ever is willing to listen and invest through both digital and in person means and through a diversity of different media that works best to convey this vision at each given time. I WANT TO INTERLINK GRAPHIC DESIGN AND FASHION IN A NEWER BETTER WAY.
So I would say my skills to relate is the natural ease and enjoyment that comes over me with the though of styling a shoot for cath kidston's new range of tea cosies. I can put my own day to day enjoyments to a career which is surely every bodies dream isn't it? T be paid for doing something that you enjoy. I would bring multi disciplinary skills to a job position in a company. An advantage to them as they can reconsider 5 jobs for one job. I would feel completely capable to design a wallpaper to put in a shoot that I style and direct and then lay it out in a publication the next hour.
This is my aim.
