Who am I competing against?
MY CLASSMATES OF 2010. It seems that once you graduate you delve straight into getting a job. Meaning by the end of your graduated year a new batch of newbees will be out in the big wide world. I may be completley wrong. This is where I ask myself, is there pressure on aiming high and getting a job straight away or is it better to hang back, work up the chain and get some well appreciated experiance to offer to the table when the time comes along?
I plan to offer what I have straight away with an ongoing promise of keeping my student mentality of constantly learning and trying to better myself. I think that in this industry you never fully know what you are doing so to say I have graduated and I am now a Graphic Designer pickmepickmepickme is silly. Honesty is key. Honest exposure would also work when referring to competitors. It's no use jus saying I am the best, prove it.
The lecture mentioned exhibitions and always carrying work on you, there isnt really a better way to prove yourself unless you line everyone up and have a bell in the middle and whoever can produce a fine idea in the shortest time wins... Could do. The point is, everyone is different and if you find the right conpany that suits you, you will suit the company. The only trouble is is that there might not be enough companies. My vision, way of working and thinking and ambition is different. It is just about exposing this in a trust worthy and classy way. In person is most probably the best.
This is a blog which is operating in the same way that my newly invented blog runs except on a larger scale. The idea of it is that you create an account which enables you to contribute anything that inspires you onto the blog which you think is relevant. The idea of creating an online resource for anyone to come and have a look through which may influence them is really attractive to me. However this system of allowing anyone to upload relevant things gives across a good feeling of there is alot of people who believe the sam-that there is a breech in the communication of creativity from high street consumption and couture fashion design. I don't necessarily like the presentation of this blog and the image that it is forcing upon the things that have been blogged, however, this just makes me feel better about doing a Graphic Design degree. This is what I can offer. I AM A PACKAGE DEAL. New and more successful ways of communicating this gap across. Producing a more stylish and classy look about it makes the contents of what I am showing seem a lot more to look at, especially the superiors of fashion and design.
When I went and spoke to a fashion tutor Paul Luke because I heard that he had done GRaphic DEsign, he excentuated the fact that this is what employers and investors are looking for now. A package deal. Creatives re expected to be able to do it all. A friend in advertising is now crossing over to art direction because it just improves the chances of being head hunted.
There are plenty of these out there its just a question of finding the biggest and best audience for what you want to influence people with. After that you tie in all of the skills possible to create a bigger better USP. My skills and interests being fashion and Art Direction and Graphic Design.

you pose some interesting questions.btw-art direction has always been a major part of advertising -I should know-I was one.
